RHD day briefing 16th July

We received a overwhelming response from parents volunteers who wish to particiapate on the RHD day. Parents volunteers turned up in full force during the RHD day briefing by Mdm Mariah, Mrs Janet and Mrs Vivien . After the briefing, a few groups stayed back, enthisiastically discussing their new roles and duties for the RHD day.

Teacher's Day Performance by PSG - Rehersal

The PSG Exco will be performing a dance item during teacher's day concert. All were excited and polishing up their best moves during rehersal.

The choreographer is none other than Mdm Massita (lady in pink).

Teacher's Day PSG Committee 2007

This is the first year that the PSG is running the teacher day celebrations. Program include concert items, token appreciations for teachers and thank you lunch, etc. All parents are welcome to contribute in any form for the celebration. Please contact Mdm Nesa, Mdm Massita or Mdm Rani.

Family Film Fest

Bonding thru' Dumpling Making

'Bonding thru' Dumpling Making' was held on 19 May 07 in the school Dinning Hall. Parents and pupils learned to make the traditional rice dumplings. Our parents volunteers did a great job as 'trainers' for the session. Parenting tips and cooking tips were exchange during the session. Mdm Yaamanni said she enjoyed the session very much as she liked to cook with her daughter. Mr Cheu Beng Fai (father of Caressa 5 Kindness & Carena 4 Love) and his family enjoyed this activity as it provide a great opportunity for family bonding time.

Brief Synopsis of workshop:

Globalisation has both the positives and negatives. It provides opportunities for those with talents and skills needed in the current knowledge-based environments. It creates uncertainties for those without the necessary skills and knowledge in the modern world. Who are the workers of this new knowledge-based economy?
Our education system has gone through various changes over the last 5 years to respond to these globalisation challenges. There are different pathways towards educational excellence for all-both in academic and non-academic fields. The aim is to maximise the potential of every student, We are aiming for mountain ranges , not a pinnacle. Do parents understand these changes and their implications for them and their children? What must parents do, especially in laying a very strong foundation at the pre-school and primary levels?

Feedback on Workshop Conducted

The Parenting Workshop was well received by the Malay parents whom have a child in the upper primary. Some of their feedbacks regarding the workshop were that many felt that it was very good , interactive and lively.Some felt that his talk gave them a new insight of the challenges that their children will encounter as well as insightful tips on how to guide their children better.

Invitation to Grandparents to write letters to their grandchildren

Inviting grandparents to write letters to their grandchildren to share how certain life skills or values have shaped their lives. This project emphasizes values and beliefs that are important for future generations of Singaporeans, and is very much in alignment with the values of national education.

The letters submitted would be highlighted in an exhibition in our libraries, together with photographs in appreciation of the school students' and their grandparents' contribution.

Bonding thru' story telling (in Mandarin)

为了促进亲子关系，并能更正确有效地引导孩子阅读课外读物，本校家长支援小组于四月七日（星期六）上午九时在本校举行亲子阅读讲座，由爱的伯乐语文中心校长张美香女士主讲。张校长精彩的讲演让我们获益匪浅，给我们留下了深刻的印象。与会者都希望本校能再次举办类似的讲座。

马六甲教育之旅

2D/1N Malacca Trip

　　由本校家长支援小组组团，一行43人（包括家长、孩子及老师）于3月10前往马六甲进行两天的教育之旅。第一天　我们参观了割胶及其加工过程；站在棕榈树下，从讲解员口中，我们了解了棕油的用途。午餐后，我们到一个典型的马来村了解他们的风俗习惯。除了观赏马来武术和陀螺表演，还可以参与学习。
　　到马六甲，肯定不会错过到古城遗址一游。之后，我们才去享用晚餐。
　　第二天，一行人参观了一个一百多亩大的果园。其中除了热带的各种果树外，还可见到许多平日难得一见的瓜果，如佛手果、柔佛树及其果实。园内还有一些驯良的动物。孩子们可以近距离接触它们。
　　这一次的教育之旅，孩子们不只玩得不亦乐乎，还学到了许多课本里头没有的新知识。

Adrielle Sze Min was born on 4 March. Her arrival was greeted with much joy from the family, especially Sarah and Joanne who have been anticipating her arrival. When I first brought Adrielle home, it was like bringing just one new toy for the two sisters to share. The two sisters were bickering over her, each wanting to have the most of the innocent babe's attention! :P Now things have kind of settled down, and the three girls are beginning to bond with one another. I hope this bond will continue to grow in love and harmony, and that my three princesses will learn to support and bring out the best in one another. :)

'Bind Us Together' BBQ Nite..... True to its name.

I was actually informed of the BBQ Nite within a short notice. When my son Danial Haqim from 1 Diligence brought home the invite, I was reluctant initially to attend as I relatively don't know anyone in the PSG. But my son, who was so eager to show me his school and teachers, urged me to go. Since I was already fetching him from school, I decided to stay.

My reluctant feeling vanished as soon as I stepped into the school and was warmly welcome by the teachers and parent volunteers. We were each given a pretty pen as a souvenir! There was a wide spread of good food but most importantly, it was the great company that leaves a deeper impression on me.

I applaud the effort put in by the PSG members and teachers, to reach out to parents through 'Bind Us Together' BBQ Nite. Events like this promotes interaction between parents and teachers binding our ties closer and enhances teacher-parent partnership. I have made some new friends that night and certainly hope that we can share experience and exchange knowledge. I have also pledged some of my time for upcoming events and am looking forward to contribute.

True to its name, the BBQ nite have indeed 'Bind Us Together'...
